The Indiana Health Information Exchange provides interoperable, standards-based solutions that can work in an electronic or paper-based healthcare setting. Information can be tailored to the specific needs of each participating organization, regardless of size or existing technology. All that's needed is a computer and internet connection, providing an ideal solution for small and rural healthcare providers, a setting where 80% of patient care is delivered.
With the federal government driving the adoption of health IT and supporting the growth of health information exchange efforts, IHIE participants are well-positioned to achieve several near-term Meaningful Use goals outlined in the Healthcare Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act and to be prepared for the future of healthcare reform.
