The Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC) has been growing steadily over the past few years, and this year has been the busiest yet. SHIEC’s 2018 Annual Conference takes place August 19-22 at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, Georgia. As SHIEC prepares for its 4th Annual Conference, let’s take a look back at some of the highlights over the past year.
SHIEC Launches the Patient Centered Data Home Initiative
In January 2018 SHIEC announced the expansion of its Patient Centered Data Home (PCDH) initiative, which connects HIEs nationwide. This data exchange system helps HIEs share clinical data across state lines, notifies providers when patients receive care, and helps sync patient data so it all remains in one accessible place.
SHIEC entered into a strategic partnership with the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement (NRHI) in October 2017 to broaden the reach of both parties. Each organization brings to the partnership complementary knowledge and expertise critical to transforming the US healthcare system.
SHIEC Growth in 2017
2017-18 have been big years for growth. SHIEC’s Strategic Business and Technology (SB&T) partner program grew 640%, vendor membership expanded from five to 32 members, and SHIEC’s HIE membership reached more than 60 members.
SHIEC circulated 17 case studies, provided multiple presentations during sessions, hosted a networking reception and more at HIMSS 2018. Hear from Kelly Thompson, CEO of SHIEC, and Dan Chavez, Executive Director of San Diego Health Connect, in this interview with TheHCBiz.com.
The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) drafted the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) which SHIEC hopes can build on current interoperability progress that has been made through various HIE initiatives and partnerships.
