Problem
Eskenazi Health is one of America’s five largest safety net health systems, providing care to nearly one million outpatient visits and nearly 90,000 emergency department visits each year. It is the public hospital division of the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County.

When the Indiana Health Information Exchange was being launched in 2004, Eskanazi was one of the founding partners because they understood the vision of IHIE and its ability to impact the care they provide to their patients.
Solution
Being part of IHIE means that Eskanzi’s physicians can operate at the very highest level. They have the tools and most relevant information to care for patients, helping support the health of all Marion county residents.

As the safety net hospital for Indianapolis - a city that hosts large scale events with national and global interest, Eskanazi often sees patients from all over the state, and beyond. IHIE’s large network provides Eskanazi with information when time is of the essence.

Eskanazi has a relatively high percentage of underserved and transitory patients, and the information they can find is very important to help fill in the gaps.

Quotes

IHIE is a big idea, and it is incredibly ambitious in what it hopes to achieve and what it already has achieved.

IHIE helps us avoid duplicating work that would have been done at another system. It saves us real resources and real time. And it helps us to be a good financial steward of the resources provided to us by all the residents of Marion county.
