Indiana Network For Patient Care

INPCImagine the power of connecting all hospitals and physicians in a single community, region or state. You can in Indiana.

With participation from 19,000 physicians, 70 hospitals, 100 clinics and surgery centers and other healthcare organizations, IHIE securely connects communities, physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers unlike any other state or region in the country to provide the best patient care possible.

This connection is possible through the INPC, a statewide network that provides physicians with a "virtual" patient record to provide a better overall picture of a patients' health.

The INPC helps physicians choose optimal therapies, reduce redundant testing and avoid drug-drug interactions, among other life-saving and efficiency-generating efforts.

The network includes information from encounters covering over 90% of care provided at hospitals in the Indianapolis area. The INPC handles over 2.8 million secure health transactions daily and contains:

  • 3 billion pieces of clinical data to support care for over 10 million patients
  • 80 million radiology images
  • 50 million text reports
  • 750,000 EKG readings

It also contains radiology images, discharge summaries, operative notes, pathology reports and medication records, among other information. It provides patient abstracts and can be queried to:

  • retrieve results
  • trend and graph data
  • print round reports
  • link to knowledge sources

The INPC was launched by the Regenstrief Institute and is now supported by the Indiana Health Information Exchange.
