Indiana Health Information Exchange expands
reach to Morgan County
Morgan Hospital & Medical Center part of nationally-recognized network.
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (October 9, 2007) – The Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) today announced that Martinsville-based Morgan Hospital & Medical Center (MHMC) is now part of its clinical messaging service network.
The clinical messaging service, called the DOCS4DOCS® system, is a sophisticated, secure, Web-based service that delivers clinical information such as transcription, radiology and laboratory results to physician offices, replacing traditional delivery systems such as courier and postal mail. It was developed by the Regenstrief Institute and is run in conjunction with IHIE.
MHMC is an affiliate of Clarian Health Partners, one of the charter members of IHIE.
"Now, more than ever, patient care involves a spectrum of providers from different hospital systems," said Dr. J. Marc Overhage, President and CEO of the Indiana Health Information Exchange and Director of Medical Informatics at the Regenstrief Institute, Inc. "The addition of MHMC to our growing network provides even more connections among urban and rural health care providers, making a greater impact on patient care throughout the state."
"This new system is quality of care at its best," said Deborah Aders, MHMC Chief Quality Officer. "You now have patient information at the touch of your fingers, improving the efficiency of healthcare due to its timeliness. Just as important is the fact that the exchange of information is occurring on a secure network."
Her comments were also echoed by Dianna Griggs, M.D., of Morgan Internal Medicine, which is affiliated with Physicians Health Center and MHMC. "The exchange of patient information has now been reduced from weeks to hours." Dr. Griggs noted that clinical results can be obtained within hours. "This is a time savings, which can be extremely crucial in determining a diagnosis and proper treatment."
The clinical messaging service is one of the nation's most well-respected clinical messaging services; 27 hospitals in Indiana and nearly 5,200 Indiana physicians are receiving, on average, one million messages each month, saving millions per year by eliminating duplicate tests and administrative costs.
In addition to Clarian Health Partners, IHIE's other charter hospitals and hospital systems are Community Health Network, Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, St. Vincent and Wishard Memorial Hospital.
