Executive from Nation's Largest Health Information Exchange to Share Sustainability Principles at HIMSS
Indiana Health Information Exchange Vice President John Kansky to speak at the nation’s largest health information technology-related conference.
INDIANAPOLIS (March 1, 2010) – The Indiana Health Information Exchange's Vice President of Business Development, John Kansky, will be presenting to an audience at the annual conference of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society on Tuesday, March 2 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
In a timely session on the heels of the over $750 million in grant awards that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced as part of a federal initiative to build capacity to enable widespread meaningful use of health IT, Kansky's presentation will focus on key lessons in building a health information exchange. The session looks at the Indiana Health Information Exchange experience and model, and will impart key principles in achieving sustainability in health information exchange (HIE) efforts.
The session is titled "HIE Sustainability: Lessons Learned by the Indiana Health Information Exchange". The core components of the session include how to recognize sustainable HIE organization models, how to test the sustainability of HIE services, and how one HIE was able to build trust within its community to ensure multi-stakeholder participation.
"The experiences of Indiana's health information exchange efforts has demonstrated key sustainability principles for other communities and states to apply as they deploy the grant awards from HHS," said Kansky, who is also the chair of the HIMSS HIE Steering Committee. "Our experiences over the past 20 years in developing this kind of secure clinical health exchange can help others learn from our mistakes and our successes, saving time, money and frustration. We believe our efforts are helping to promote an effective, efficient, secure and reliable health care system."
